About Shiraz
The grape was introduced to Australia in 1832 by James Bushby and by 1844 Shiraz was considered a well recommended variety for Australia. For at least its first hundred years here, Shiraz was used as a 'field blend' variety and not vinified separately but it is now made most often as a straight varietal. It's late blooming nature suits the warmer growing conditions found in Australia.
MDC Shiraz
Salt Pan contains a small percentage of co-fermented Viognier which adds both a vibrant aromatic lift with hints of stone fruit and an intensely purple hue to the colour. The wine is quite full bodied with a firm structure and slightly savoury edge to its rich fruit flavours of raspberry and dark plums.
