About Negro Amaro
Translating literally as ‘black’ and ‘bitter’ this variety is at home in the provinces of Lecce, Brindisi and Tarranto in the region of Puglia, southern Italy.  Traditionally blended with the aromatic Malvasia Nera to make earthy, rustic and rich red wines called Salice Salentino, Negro Amaro is also made as a straight varietal specialty wine.

MDC Negro Amaro
The first example of this wine to be produced in Australia in a small lot of only 70 cases.  Made from young vines, yielding their first crop, the wine is less concentrated than it’s Italian cousins.  Although the variety’s trademark rich colour is not yet evident it is showing a pronounced bitterness and some lovely interesting coffee and spice tones with the classic fruit presence of new world European style wines.
